Potential problems and causes

Problem regarding "Confluence Base Url"

This could be provoked by following causes:

  1. The Confluence URL specified under > Confluence Administration > Genereal configuration > Site configuration > Server Base URL does not conform with the given URL in browser.
  2. The Confluence URL does not start with "HTTPS": The SharePoint Online Connector requires Confluence to be called over HTTPS.

Problem regarding "Local Storage"

This message is displayed if cookies are not allowed in the currently used browser. Check cookie settings. in your browser.

An indicated problem does not compulsory mean that SharePoint Online Connector won't work properly.

Consider that other browsers would possibly yield other results. This applies in particular for browsers at the end user machines.

Problem regarding "Setup Connector for Azure AD"

Client id should be not empty (can be still wrong e.g. not being setup with Azure without being detected as wrong in this step)

Problem regarding "Login via Azure AD"

Login requires user to click a button to prevent blocking by browser. Some browser might still block the login pop-up.

Workaround is to have users deactivate the Pop-Up-Blocker at least for their confluence domain as originating (and https://login.microsoftonline.com/ as domain of the pop-up if this can/has to be specified). Other users might also have the problem when not using the suport tool but inserting or viewing a SharePoint Online List/Document macro - they have to "login" at least once to connect our application to SharePoint Online, even if they are already logged in into SharePoint Online or Office 365.

If there is an error message in the login window then the message provided by login.microsoftonline.com can help to determine following cases:

  1. application id is not known to the Azure Active Directory used for that user
  2. replay url is not setup

Check Azure setup and if the application ID provided is correct.

Check Replay-urls for the application in Azure Portal to be a full url not just the domain name of the Confluence. (Save the Azure application configuration. And wait a minute before retest)

Problem regarding "Azure Application Configuration"

Error Messages:

Provided SharePoint Online Url is not registered with the tenant.

* rewording could be useful

SharePoint url is no a valid SharePoint Online system. (Test can pass even if this is a  SharePoint of someone else!)

Application Option "oauth2AllowImplicitFlow" not enabled

oauth implicit flow has to enabled for the application in Azure portal - Azure Active Directory Admin has to make sure to save manifest/configuration after editing.

Administrator has to configure and grant permissions for all users for this application

Permissions have to be configured and after that consent has to be granted by an admin for application in Azure portal. Might take a few minutes to update.

Either timeout or blocked third party cookies; to narrow down the issue use the button.

We test 2nd time if the user can do token renewable via pop-up window to see if 3rd part cookies are the issue. 3rd party cookies have to be enable (on the confluence domain) for microsoftonline.com to make token renewal work.

It looks like third party cookies for https://login.microsoftonline.com/ are blocked by your browser.

If this message is shown after token renewal via po-up then we got some token and conclude that 3r party cookies whee not available via iframe - the way we use to not bother the confluence users over and over again - Token for SharePoint Online Access last at most 1h.

Problem regarding "Search Sites"

  1. Inappropriate firewall settings
