SharePoint Connector for Confluence Cloud data residency information
This page contains information about data residency for the SharePoint Connector for Confluence Cloud. We will answer a set of questions regarding data storage, configuration storage, and geographical location.
Where is data stored for the cloud app?
For the Confluence App, the configuration data needed to render the content is stored in macro properties inside the core Atlassian instance.
If you have installed and will be using the SharePoint solution web part to embed Confluence pages into SharePoint, we store the Page Title, Embed URL, and Page URL in the web part's properties, which are used only during the browser session to render the Confluence pages. (No data is stored outside of your SharePoint instance)
What security is in place for the storage of data?
Data for the Confluence app is stored in macro parameters and resides within the core Atlassian application, thus benefiting from the security of the host application (Confluence in this case).
Data stored in web part properties in SharePoint (as explained above) resides within the customer's SharePoint environment.
Where does each app store the configuration settings?
No general configuration settings are stored because we use the Microsoft Graph API to retrieve the required data in the context of the currently signed-in user.
What data (if any) is stored within the core application?
For the Confluence app, the following data is stored as macro parameters (data coming from the MS Graph API or the migrated macros from DC):
SharePoint Document Macro:
SharePoint document URL
Document ID
Embed Url
File Type
Display type
SharePoint List Macro:
List ID
List Type
SharePoint Site URL
Starting Folder ID
For the SharePoint web part, the following data is stored inside the web part properties:
Confluence Page Title
Confluence Page Embed URL (containing Page ID)
Confluence Page URL
Is any data stored outside the core Atlassian application?
The following data is stored in SharePoint pages of the customer (as web part properties if the customer decides to use the SharePoint solution to embed Confluence pages into SharePoint):
Confluence Page Title
Confluence Page Embed URL (containing page id)
Confluence Page URL
No data is stored in our infrastructure
What is the geographical location of the data storage outside the Core Application?
This depends on the location of your SharePoint instance, as we store data in customers' SharePoint Online environments. We do not store any data on our servers as we provide only a client-side solution.
As for the residency of our app resources, they are hosted in an Azure web container in the West Europe region. However, the web resources are distributed via an Azure CDN to deliver the best app performance.
