Connection Test from Confluence to SharePoint fails with "end of file"

Symptoms

Test connection from Confluence to SharePoint fails with one of the following errors:

 

 

Please set the log level com.atlassian.confluence.extra.sharepoint.ws to INFO.

Cause

Confluence can not reach SharePoint, this might be due to a network issue like a proxy that blocks the connection

 

Resolution

  1. Run the test connection again 
  2. Export the log file and search for the connection tests
  3. There should be at least one connection test for the base-url 

  4. If that fails with a log entry like this:

    2017-04-21 15:46:25,956 INFO [ajp-nio-8009-exec-6] [extra.sharepoint.ws.WebServiceAccessorImpl] testConnection Making test connection directly to SharePoint (https://sharepoint-base-url.de)
2017-04-21 15:46:25,966 ERROR [ajp-nio-8009-exec-6] [extra.sharepoint.ws.WebServiceAccessorImpl] testConnection Test Connection failed!

     the Connector can not connect to SharePoint itself and a Proxy denies the connection.
