Switch from SharePoint Server 2016 (or earlier) to SharePoint Server 2019/SE or SharePoint Online
If you are planning to upgrade/migrate SharePoint Server 2016 or earlier to a later version, we recommend reviewing the following guidelines.
Important note: We currently do not support migrating existing content when you switch to another SharePoint environment.
Confluence macros and SharePoint web parts that are already configured might no longer be able to resolve their content, requiring manual adjustments.
Switch from SharePoint Server 2016 (or earlier) to SharePoint Server 2019/SE
For the Confluence integration, SharePoint Server 2019/SE uses the same basic setup as SharePoint Server 2016. Therefore, you have to ensure the configuration is done the same way as on your previous SharePoint Server instance, following this guide.
To support the modern experience introduced with SharePoint Server 2019, you should ensure the app configuration in Confluence administration is set to download and install the latest SharePoint solution for embedding Confluence content in SharePoint Server 2019/SE.
Please then follow the installation instructions in the SharePoint 2019/SE documentation.
Please make sure to remove the SharePoint Add-in that is used in SharePoint Server 2016 before you install the new SharePoint Framework solution used by SharePoint 2019/SE/Online
Switch from SharePoint Server 2016 (or earlier) to SharePoint Online
For the Confluence integration, as the configuration of SharePoint Online is entirely different from SharePoint Server, you have to follow the full guide on how to install SharePoint Connector for Confluence in SharePoint Online.
Please make sure to adjust the app configuration in the Confluence administration to download and install the latest SharePoint solution for embedding Confluence content into SharePoint Online.
Please then follow the installation instructions in the SharePoint Online documentation.
