Important Notice for SharePoint On-Premise Customers

We would like to inform you that with the release of version 3.0 of our SharePoint Connector for Confluence DC/Server, we can no longer offer support for SharePoint On-Premise. If you are a SharePoint On-Premise customer and have already switched to version 3.0, your data will remain intact. In this case, please follow the downgrade steps to restore the previous version.

Upgrade Steps

SharePoint Connector for Confluence Data Center version 3.0 should be offered automatically in the Manage Apps section. If not, you can actively search for the SharePoint Connector via the Confluence internal Atlassian Marketplace link under Find New Apps or manually install the version here through the marketplace.

Java Compatibility Notice

Minimum Java Version: Java 17

Starting with this release, our app requires Java 17 as the minimum supported runtime environment. While Confluence 8.5 and later (below Confluence 9.x) technically supports both Java 11 and Java 17, Atlassian recommends using Java 17 for improved performance, security, and long-term compatibility. See Atlassian’s platform documentation and LTS release notes for more details.

If your Confluence instance is still running on Java 11, this app will not function correctly.

We strongly encourage all customers to upgrade their Java runtime to Java 17 or higher, in line with Atlassian’s own platform requirements. Confluence 9.0 and later versions require Java 17 as a baseline, and Java 11 is no longer supported by Atlassian for these versions.

For more information, please refer to Atlassian’s Supported Platforms documentation.

Uninstall left over extensions from previous versions 3.x.

After upgrading you would need to manually uninstall the SharePoint Connector for Confluence Add-In Extension.

To do so go to Manage Apps section in Confluence Administration and uninstall the extension.

Read the documentation for further information on the changes

Please read the documentation for an overview of the changes. Make sure to review the app's configuration page. Additionally, if you have previously embedded list macros, adjustments will be necessary. Follow the section on Information about Deprecation of SharePoint Default List Views.

Downgrade Steps

👉 Please note that your data remains persistent; no subsequent configuration is required to restore the previous version.

Steps to Downgrade:

  1. Completely uninstall version 3.0 or higher from the Manage Apps section in Confluence.

  2. Open the Atlassian Marketplace directly using this link: https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1218247/sharepoint-connector-for-confluence/version-history

    • For Confluence 9 and Above Users: Install one of the versions 2.0.2 and above, but below version 3.0. This version supports SharePoint On-Premise and the current SharePoint web part with Confluence 9.x and above.

    • For Confluence 8 and Below Users: Install one of the versions 1.12.5 and above, but below version 2.0. This version supports SharePoint On-Premise and the current SharePoint web part with Confluence 8.x and below.

Deprecation of SharePoint Default List Views

With the use of the Microsoft Graph REST API, SharePoint default list view is no longer supported.
This changes the configuration process but also offers advantages: each list can be configured individually in Confluence and there is no dependency on the default view in SharePoint Online. This means you'll have new options for optimizing the view for your users in Confluence.

How to Migrate an Existing List

Migrating your existing lists takes just a few easy steps. Initially, the list is displayed in version 3.0 with three standard columns: Name, Modified, and Modified by. Each list is straightforward configured individually by editing the list macro and using the custom column configurator. Please read our documentation for details.

Be aware that once you save the list macro changes, you will no longer be able to modify this new macro in a version prior to 3.0. If you downgrade the version, you will have to add the modified list again in Confluence.

Retiring the Existing SharePoint Web Part

From version 3.0 of the SharePoint connector, the SharePoint web part SPFX solution is no longer supported. We are working on offering a comparable alternative. If you have ideas for implementation or improvements, please share them in our questionnaire: Microsoft Forms.

If you're already using our SharePoint web part and don't want to give up the solution, we recommend temporarily staying with the version prior to 3.0. If you've already updated to 3.0, please follow the downgrade steps to restore the previous version.
