Jira Cloud to Cloud migration

Jira Cloud to Cloud migration

There are currently two possible options to migrate data from one commercial to another commercial cloud instance.

  1. Jira Transfer: This option will not transfer app data and there aren’t any plans to support this migration path at the moment. Atlassian is exploring additional migration scenarios, and we’ll assess them when available.

  2. Backup and import: The second option is to make a Jira backup and import it into another commercial Jira Cloud. This will also transfer all your connected SharePoint files in tickets and projects. At the moment it’s the only supported way to transfer your data automatically between Jira instances.
However, this option also has some limitations:

    1. You have to be an organisation admin for the import.

    2. You are not able to make a partial migration.

    3. Current data in the destination instance will be replaced by the migrated data.

    4. You have to reinstall every marketplace app in the final instance. The SharePoint Connector for Jira will automatically recognize and display the connected SharePoint files.

To use the backup strategy:

  1. Go to the Jira system settings and create a backup on your original instance.

    Download the cloud backup.

  3. Import the downloaded ZIP file in your destination instance.

We recommend to also create a backup of the destination instance to enable a rollback in cases where it’s needed.
