Jira Cloud to Cloud migration

Jira Cloud to Cloud migration

There are currently two options for migrating data from one commercial cloud instance to another.

  1. Jira Transfer: This option does not transfer app data, and there are no plans to support this migration path at the moment. Atlassian is exploring additional migration scenarios, and we’ll assess them as they become available.

  2. Backup and import: The second option is to back up Jira and import it into another commercial Jira Cloud instance. This will also transfer all your connected SharePoint files to tickets and projects. At the moment, it’s the only supported way to transfer your data automatically between Jira instances.
However, this option also has some limitations:

    1. You have to be an organization admin for the import.

    2. You are not able to make a partial migration.

    3. The current data in the destination instance will be replaced with the migrated data.

    4. You have to reinstall every marketplace app in the final instance. The SharePoint Connector for Jira will automatically recognize and display the connected SharePoint files.

To use the backup strategy:

  1. In the Jira system settings, create a backup of your original instance.

    Download the cloud backup.

  3. Import the downloaded ZIP file into your destination instance.

We also recommend creating a backup of the destination instance to enable a rollback when needed.
