At present, the SharePoint Connector for Confluence does not offer a search feature. The reason for this is the missing extensibility of the SharePoint Online Search. As soon as Microsoft will offer ways to extend SharePoint Online Search (or Bing Enterprise Search) with external content such as from Atlassian Confluence we will put search on our product roadmap for SharePoint Online Connector. We can see this on the horizon but we cannot provide any timing for this yet.Currently Nevertheless a search for Confluence (Server or Data Center) Content /DC as well as Cloud) content within SharePoint on premise is already possible with our product the Connector for SharePoint Search.

Although we do not officially support this right now there is indeed a possibility to search Confluence (Server) content in SharePoint Online with our Connector for SharePoint Search.

Excerpt
  • By setting up the Hybrid search in SharePoint you can achieve that SharePoint on premise will propagate its index to SharePoint Online

  • Since the Connector for SharePoint Search writes the Confluence data into the SharePoint on premise index then together with the configured Hybrid Search the Confluence data will eventually come in the SharePoint Online index

  • Important: a SharePoint on premise (2013, 2016 or 2019) Server is required for setting up hybrid search (but there is no need to propagate SharePoint on premise data to SharePoint Online index if you don't want them to be apparent in SharePoint Online search)

  • We already did successfully set up such a hybrid search integrated with Confluence by means of the Search Connector in our demo environment:

  • So why is this not yet officially supported?

    • There are still open questions regarding for example the Managed Properties in SharePoint Online. Thus you probably will not be able to create refiners for Confluence Labels or Spaces in the SharePoint Online search center.
