Filtering date fields does not work as expected

Problem

I have added a filter in the Metadata Overview macro which includes a metadata field of type Date. I have selected "Any date" or "Last 24 hours"/ .../"Last year" as a range. When I click "Preview" or save, the result is showing pages where the value of the date field is not within the given range.

Solution

Metadata uses Confluence functionality, which does not account for Metadata dates in the future. Searching for dates in the past can therefore show wrong results.

To avoid this, please use the option "Custom" to define a date range.
