Sometimes it could be helpful to send a search query to SharePoint and analyze the response. This can be achieved by using the free SharePoint Search Query Tool.
Instruction
download: SharePoint Search Query Tool
expand the zip file and start the tool
fill in the required values as follows:
(the query text depends on your current purpose)
make sure you use the same SharePoint credentials that are used by your app
Examine the results
often the information from the "Status" tab and the "Primary Results" tab is important
