Executing a search query using SharePoint Search Query Tool

 

Sometimes it could be helpful to send a search query to SharePoint and analyze the response. This can be achieved by using the free SharePoint Search Query Tool. 

Instruction

  • Download: SharePoint Search Query Tool

  • Expand the zip file and start the tool

  • Fill in the required values as follows:

  • (The query text depends on your current purpose)

  • Make sure you use the same SharePoint credentials that are used by your app

Examine the results

  • Often, the information from the "Status" tab and the "Primary Results" tab is important 

    • Status

    • Primary Results (with one of the results expanded)

    • Displaying the Managed Properties for a special result:
